As argolas de ferro usadas no antebraco sao muito famosas no estilo Hung Ga ja tendo sido muito usadas inclusive em filmes como Kung-Fusao(Kung Fu Hustle) e o esquisito "Hung Kuen Marries Ving Tsun" . Uma versao Kung Fu de Romeu e Julieta, onde a filha de um Mestre de Ving Tsun se apaixona pelo filho de um Mestre de Hung Ga.

p.s. - A cena eh muito divertida, mas tenho que dizer que Gordon Liu(o eterno monge San Te) cada vez mais se parece com uma tartaruga. Se eu o visse na rua dava uma folha de alface pra ele!
The iron rings used in the forearm are very famous in Hung Ga style already being widely used even in such films as Stephen VChow's Kung Fu Hustle and the odd "Hung Kuen Marries Ving Tsun ." A Kung Fu version of Romeo and Juliet, where the daughter of a Master of Ving Tsun is in love with the son of a Master of Hung Ga.

Ao contrario do que eh mostrado no filme "DRAGAO,A HISTORIA DE BRUCE LEE", Bruce chegou nos EUA a tempo de completar o chamado HIGH SCHOOL. Ele trabalhava meio periodo num restaurante, e nunca deixou o Ving Tsun de lado.Ele tinha um costume curioso, que era o de escrever cartas, dezenas delas! Para amigos e alguns de seus Si Hings em Hong Kong, como William Cheung e Hawkins Cheung!
O Blog do Pereira teve acesso a uma carta recebida pelo escritor John Little da viuva de Bruce, a enigmatica Linda Lee.

In opposition with what was shown in the movie "Dragon, the Bruce Lee Story", Bruce arrived in the U.S. in time to complete the so-called HIGH SCHOOL. He works part time at a restaurant, and never left to train Ving Tsun .
He had a curious custom, which was to write letters, dozens of them! T friends and some of his Si Hings in Hong Kong, as William Cheung and Hawkins Cheung!
The Peartree's Blog had access to a letter received by the writer John Little from Bruce's widow, the enigmatic Linda Lee.

A carta foi escrita para James Yimm Lee* em 13 de Agosto de 1965 por Bruce Lee.*James Lee como eh mais conhecido, ficou muito famoso nos EUA pelo seu dominio da chamada "palma de ferro".Fazendo demonstracoes onde quebrava 10 ou mais tijolos, ainda que sua mao sempre estivesse macia e sem calos. Conheceu Bruce Lee pois seu irmao disse que um chines estava dando aulas de Cha-Cha-Cha e era bom de Kung Fu!
The letter was written to James Yimm Lee * on 13 August, 1965 by Bruce Lee
* James Lee was very famous in the U.S. for his domain of the so-called "Iron Palm". Doing demonstrations which broke 10 or more bricks, though his hand was always soft and without calluses. Met Bruce Lee as his brother said that a Chinese guy was teaching the Cha-Cha-Cha and was good in Kung Fu!

"...Que bom saber que voce esta praticando o Siu Nim Tau! E mais feliz ainda em saber que voce entende que o Siu Nim Tau possui todas as "maos do Ving Tsun" em poucas palavras.
Para resultados melhores no Siu Nim Tau eu defendi o uso de argolas de ferro nos antebracos enquanto se faz o Tan Sau e o Fuk Sau, ja que o peso da a exata resistencia do que daria o braco de um oponente. Ao contrario de pura imaginacao,um sentimento real vai sendo sentido enquanto o braco vagarosamente vai ate o ponto de referencia(com dedos e pulso relaxados!!!). Eu mostrei o metodo das argolas de ferro para meu Si Fu e ele se convenceu quando demonstrei para ele que no Siu Nim Tau quando o Tan Sau esta indo a frente, se supoe que exista uma mao fazendo Fuk Sau sobre ele. E que quando o Fuk Sau esta voltando,supoe-se que uma mao faz Tan Sau sob ele. Alem disso, as argolas de ferro vao dar a resistencia necessaria quando o praticante direcionar sua energia a frente sem tencionar seus dedos e pulso. Mais resistencia pode ser provida com mais argolas. Esta eh uma maneira viva de construir uma "ponte longa de forca" sem fazer as maos ficarem rigidas. Este eh um tipo moderno de treino de peso progressivo e eh efetivo. Tudo para melhorar o Ving Tsun! .....""... Glad to know that you are practicing the Siu Nim Tau! And even happier to know that you understand that the Siu Nim Tau has all the" hands of the Ving Tsun "in a nutshell. For best results in the Siu Nim Tau I defended the use of the iron rings on the forearm while making the Tan Sau and Fuk Sau, since the weight of the exact resistance than would the arm of an opponent. Unlike pure imagination, the real feeling is being felt as the arm slowly goes out to the mainpoint (with fingers and wrist relaxed !!!). I showed the method of iron rings for my
Si Fu and he was convinced when I demonstrated to him that the Siu Nim Tau when the Tan Sau is going forward , it is assumed that there is a hand in Fuk Sau over it. And when the Fuk Sau is coming back, we assume that the hand has a Tan Sau under it. Furthermore, the iron rings will give the resistance necessary when the practitioner wants to direct his energy to face without wishing his fingers and wrist. More resistance can be provided with more rings. This is a way to build a "living long bridge"without rigid hands . This is a modern kind of progressive weight training and its effective . All to improve the Ving Tsun! ... "

Bruce Lee entao diz em sua carta que o Patriarca havia encorajado ele a continuar fazendo uso de suas argolas, inclusive tendo mais tarde tirado a lendaria foto estilo Gordon Liu com as argolas.
Muita gente sabe, que um dos apelidos do Patriarca era "Homem Sim". Isso porque Ip Man ficava sentado lendo seu jornal deixando que o Kung Fu brotasse sozinho de seus To Dais. Geralmente ele colocava um Si Hing para coordenar estas atividades.
Quando algum empresario rico de Hong Kong o contratava para aulas particulares, ele fazia o mesmo: Levava um Si Hing ou dois e ficava la no canto dele muitas vezes sem nem levantar...
Quando algum aluno perguntava: "Si Fu, isso esta certo desse jeito?"
Ele respondia: "SIM!"
Quando outro aluno perguntava sobre a mesma tecnica: "SI Fu, isso esta errad ne?"

Ip Man entao respondia: "Mas claro que serve pra atacar! Vamos fazer o seguinte mas nao conta pra ninguem: Voce sem dizer nada pra ele, vai mobiliza-lo a ver o Tan Sau tambem como ataque.Combinado?"
E la ia o carinha feliz se achando o chamado "closed door student"..rs
Ai vinha o outro:
"Si Fu, fulano disse que o Tan Sau so serve pra ataque, mas eu acho que serve pra defesa!"
Ip Man respondia: "Claro que e pra defesa! Ele ta louco! Olha so: Nao conta pra ninguem, mas sem dizer nada a ele, vou pedir a voce que mobilize-o a ver o Tan Sau como defesa."
E la ia feliz mais um "closed door student"..rs
One of the Patriarch's favorite play was as follows:
Imagine you are with a friend of training. Do you think the Tan Sau can also be used to attack, and your friend think that its for defense. You then went and asked to Ip Man: "Si Fu, some guy said Tan Sau only serves for defense, but I think it serves to attack!"

Entao nos observamos a maestria do Patriarca ao deixar de uma forma solta, que seus To Dais aprendessem a mobilizar o outro sem forcar. Como apreciar a ideia alheia sem conflitar com ela? Como acolhe-la ainda que seja oposta a sua?Por isso talvez o "homem sim" estivesse apenas pregando mais uma de suas pecas de Si Fu em seu To Dai mais famoso, sabendo que com o amadurecimento de seu Kung Fu, sua propria visao do Sistema tambem amadureceria, e quem sabe assim, por si so, ele abandonasse a ideia das argolas de ferro...
Then we observe the mastery of the Patriarch to let in a free way his To Dais learn to mobilize the other without forcing. How to enjoy the view of others without conflicting with it? How welcome a point of view even if it is opposed to yours?
So maybe the "yes man" was just playing again with of one of his most famous sudents knowing that with the maturing of his Kung Fu, his own vision of the system would also mature, and maybe by himself, he would abandoned the idea of the iron rings ...

Hoje o Blog do Pereira dando continuidade as comemoracoes de 3 anos do Blog (e ainda com o teclado ruim) vai falar de Bruce Lee na terceira parte de seu especial e de seu Si Hing , o chamado "Rei do Gong Sau"(講手王): Wong Shun Leung.
"Ainda que tecnicamente eu seja aluno de Ip Man, eu aprendi meu Kung Fu com voce" - escreveu Bruce Lee certa vez para ele.
Wong Shun Leung marcou epoca na Familia Kung Fu de Ip Man, porque muitos o consideravam o "Rei" de algo que ainda acontecia naqueles dias: O Gong Sau(講手)
手 (Sau) - Significa "mao" ou "membro superior". "Sau" eh o mesmo ideograma de "Te" de "Karate".
講(Gong) tem alguns significados muito interessantes, onde um deles eh "negociar". Ainda que os entusiastas e entendidos desta pratica, prefiram o verbo "falar" para sua traducao.

"Even though technically I am a student of Ip Man, I learned my Kung Fu from you" - Bruce Lee wrote once to him.
Wong Shun Leung marked a time in Ip Man`s Kung Fu Family, because many considered him as the "King" of something that was still happening in those days: The Gong Sau (講 手)
手 (Sau) - means "hand" . "Sau" is the same character of "Te" from "Karate".
講 (Gong) has some very interesting meanings, where one of them is " to negotiate". While enthusiasts and understood in this practice, prefer the verb "to talk" to his translation.
Mas se voce esta pensando que se trata da velha brincadeira do "entao fala aqui com a minha mao", voce se enganou!Gong Sau era quando dois praticantes se enfrentavam fisicamente em um desafio valendo tudo que a etica para com o outro ser humano permitisse.
But if you're thinking that this is the old joke of "then talks to my hand," you were wrong!
Gong Sau was when two practitioners were engaged in a physical challenge worth all that ethics allows to do to another human being.

Naquela epoca, era dificil encontrar mais de um representante de um estilo numa mesma cidade. Assim sendo, era mais do que comum num desafio, o aluno nao so representar o trabalho de seu Si Fu como todo o seu estilo.
E por vencer alguns desses desafios old school, Wong Shun Leung ganhou o apelido de "Rei do Gong Sau". Ainda que eu se estivesse la naquela epoca teria colocado o apelido nele de "Charles Bronson". O cara eh igual!
Por essas e outras, os treinos coordenados por Wong eram sempre lotados, e eh ai que entra o jovem Bruce Lee na historia...
At that time, it was hard to find more than one representative of a style in the same city. Therefore, it was very common in a challenge, the students not only represent the work of his Si Fu but also the whole style.
And as he won some of these old schoo challenges , Wong Shun Leung earned the nickname of "King of the Gong Sau". But if I were there at that time would have put him the nickname of "Charles Bronson". hehe
For these and other reasons, Wong`s training sessions were always crowded, and here enters the young Bruce Lee in the history ...
Em Hong Kong, os espacos sempre foram muito pequenos. Mesmo para a pratica de Ving Tsun faltava espaco pra tanta gente! Ainda mais num treino tao disputado como o de Wong Shun Leung. Por isso, Bruce Lee protagonizou uma das muitas lendas da turma de Ip Man mais divertidas:Eh contado que o maroto Bruce Lee chegava mais cedo do que todos ate o local onde os treinos ocorriam. Ficava em pe na porta e quando ia chegando o pessoal ele dizia: "Se liga ai! O Si Hing disse que nao vem hoje e pediu pra avisar."
E assim ele fazia ateh que todos que fossem chegando desistissem e voltassem pra casa.
Ate que chegava nosso Charles Bronson Wong Shun Leung, que perguntava: "Garoto, cade todo mundo?"
"Si Hing, to aqui ja ha uma hora e nao veio ninguem."
E assim Bruce conseguia aulas privativas com Wong.rsrs
Se voce imaginou Bruce Lee com uma blusa listrada de malandro e um som de cuica no fundo eu tambem pensei nisso!rs
In Hong Kong, the spaces were very small. Even for the practice of Ving Tsunthere was no space for so many people! Even more in training so crowded as Wong Shun Leung`s sessions.

Querido Shun-Leung,
"...Com relacao as artes marciais, eu as pratico diariamente. Eu dou aulas para alunos e amigos duas vezes na semana. E nao importa se eles sao boxeadores ocidentais ou praticantes de Tae Kwon Do ou wrestlers, eu os ensinarei contanto que sejam amigos. Desde que comecei a praticar de forma realistica em 1966(usando protetores,luvas,etc) Eu sinto que fui muito prejudicado antes disso, e "eles" estavam errados. Entao eu mudei o nome do que eu treino para Jeet Kune Do. Mas Jeet Kune Do eh so um nome. O mais importante eh evitar evitar vieses no treino. Claro, eu corro todos os dias. Pratico soco, chutes,projecoes,etc. Eu tenho melhorado minhas condicoes basicas diariamente. Apesar de que boxear eh importante , na verdade o mais importante. Eu agradeco ao Si Fu (Ip Man) por me ensinar Ving Tsun em Hong Kong. Na verdade, eu tenho que agradecer a voce por me guiar num caminho pratico. Especialmente nos EUA,existem boxeadores ocidentais, eu eu com frequencia pratico com eles. Existem muitos auto-denominados mestres de Ving Tsun aqui. E eu realmente espero que eles nao estejam cegos para lutarem com estes boxeadores... ...Nos somos amigos intimos e necessitamos nos encontrar mais para papear sobre o passado. ... As for the martial arts, I practice them daily. I give lessons to students and friends twice a week. And no matter if they are Western boxers or practitioners of Tae Kwon Do or wrestlers, I will teach as long as they are friends. Since I started practicing in a realistically way in 1966 (using protectors, gloves, etc.) I feel that I was very prejudice before, and "they" were wrong. So I changed the name of what I train for Jeet Kune Do. But Jeet Kune Do is just a name. The most important is to avoid biases in training. Of course, I run every day. The importance of the KAI SIU YAN(介紹人)
Kai Siu Yan(介紹人) eh um termo muito usado antigamente nas Familias Kung Fu.
Kai(介) -significa "apresentar"
Siu(紹) - seria algo como "continuar"
Mas na verdade Kai Siu(介紹) eh uma expressao que significa: "apresentar" ou "sugerir".
Yan(人) - Significa "pessoa" ou "ser humano" (ehh... fiquemos com "pessoa" neh?
Kai Siu Yan (介紹人) is a term widely used in the old Kung Fu Families.
Kai (介)-means "To introduce"
Siu (绍) - would be something like "continues"
But actually Kai Siu (介紹) is a expression that means " to introduce" or "to suggest".
Yan (人) - means "person" or "human being" (Ehh. .. stay with "person" right?
So Kai Siu Yan (介紹人) is "a person who introduces" or "person who suggests" ...
Hoje eh muito simples voce sair de sua casa e se matricular na escola de artes marciais que bem entender, mas no Kung Fu, houve um tempo em que nao era tao facil assim.As Familias Kung Fu eram grupos restritos onde so entrava alguem que fosse indicado(KaiSiu) por alguem de dentro(yan).
O Kai Siu Yan(介紹人) se tornava uma especie de elo entre a pessoa e a Familia Kung Fu.E acaba de certa forma se tornando responsavel por ela.
Mas na epoca de Ip Man isso ja nao era mais tao recorrente no sentido de "entrar na Familia", mas quem sabe, no sentido de treinar?
Muitas vezes para que a figura do Si Fu seja valorizada dentro da Familia, eh necessario que ele nao se exponha tanto aos iniciantes, fazendo isso apenas com praticantes veteranos e discipulos mais proximos.

Thats why must of the time the Si Hings were the responsibles for the begginners as in the case of Wong Shun Leung and William Cheung did for Bruce Lee.

Segundo ele, ainda no navio a caminho da terra do Crocodilo Dundee, Cheung ficou acho que preso numa cabine e acabou entrando em conflito com 10 marinheiros de uma vez, dando uma escovada em todos.
Esse feito acabou saindo nos jornais da Australia e a "fama" do Ving Tsun assim se fez em terras colaenses...
Another legend told is about the Kai Siu Yan (介紹人) of Bruce Lee.
According to Wong Shun Leung, Ving Tsun became famous in Australia only after the arrived of William Cheung.
According to him, still on the ship en route to the land of Crocodile Dundee, I think that Cheung was locked in a cabin and fell into conflict with 10 sailors at at the same time, "giving a brushed" in all of them.
This achievement was dropped in newspapers in Australia and the "fame" of Ving Tsun was on the land of Outbacks ...
Obviamente algo muito interessante, eh que quando voce eh amigo de alguem antes de entrar na Familia Kung Fu, e depois que voce entra, esta pessoa passa a ser seu Si Hing(ou vice-versa), muitas vezes eh dificil nao confundir as relacoes.
Com Bruce e William nao foi diferente algumas vezes, como vemos na carta a seguir escrita por Bruce em 1964 para seu Kai Siu Yan(介紹人) William Cheung supostamente 10 anos depois que o mesmo apresentou Bruce a Familia Ip Man.
Esta carta foi recuperada pelo escritor John Little.
Obviously something very interesting, is that when you and your Kai Siu Yan(介紹人) were close friends before entering the Kung Fu Family , and after you enter, that person becomes your Si Hing (or vice versa), often is hard to not confuse the relations . With Bruce and William was not different at that times, as is shown in the following letter written by Bruce in 1964 to William Cheung supposedly 10 years after William introduced Bruce to Ip Man Family. This letter was recovered by the writer John Little.

Na foto vemos um jovem Bruce Lee ao lado de seu Si Fu Ip Man. E Bruce como sempre nas fotos com o Patriarca mostra-se orgulhoso de estar ao seu lado. Será que ainda assim os dois teriam se desentendido como alguns afirmam? Será que Ip Man teria repreendido Bruce por ensinar o Ving Tsun a estrangeiros?
Bruce Lee escreveu duas cartas sobre suas convicções e seu Si Fu:

Bruce Lee wrote two letters about his ideas and about his Si Fu:

Ving Tsun será o ponto de partida,Chi Sau será o seu núcleo e depois será complementado pelos 5 Caminhos..."
Taky Kimura was one of the first official class of students of Bruce Lee in the U.S., today he is one of guarding Bruce´s tomb.

Observe que extra-oficialmente, Bruce Lee não só treinava com conhecidos como ensinava em aulas particulares antes e depois de formar sua turma. E ele escrevia sobre isso em cartas a seus Si Hing em Hong Kong.

Note that unofficially, Bruce Lee trained with known people not only as teaching private lessons before and after forming his class. And he wrote about it in letters to his Si Hing in Hong Kong.

Durante o almoço Bruce Ip Man para tirar mais de 200 fotos profissionais em um estúdio de Hong Kong. Se hoje é caro, imagina na época? Bruce também ofereceu um carro de presente ao seu Si Fu,pois ao contrário do que muitos pensam,Ip Man em Hong Kong não tinha muito dinheiro. He is 66 years old now, and I think that in a few years, those photos will be unique pictures ... "

Mas com certeza, sua missão com relação a preservação do Sistema havia sido cumprida tornando-o Mestre de Ving Tsun mais famoso dentro e fora da China,quando não,superado apenas pelo lendário "Punho de FatSan", Dr; Leeung Jaan seu Si Gung.When Ip Man passed away, not only the Ving Tsun, but the entire martial arts community has lost a great martial artist and master. But sure, his mission to preservation of the Ving Tsun system was accomplished making he the Master of Ving Tsun most famous inside and outside China, and when not, only surpassed only by the legendary "FatSan Fist", Dr; Leeung Jaan,who was his Si Gung.
Si Taai Gung Moy Yat(primeiro da direita p/ esq.) sempre foi muito ativo na participação de comitês organizadores na Família Kung Fu de seu Si Fu. Era assim em seus aniversários, foi assim na Fundação da Ving Tsun Atlhetic Association e infelizmente,também foi assim no funeral de seu Si Fu como vemos na foto.Si taai Gung Moy yat(first from right to left) was always inside the organizations groups of the Kung Fu family of Ip Man. Na foto acima vemos também Bruce Lee nesta imagem rara quando já era uma grande estrela que morreria apenas um ano depois prestando suas homenagens.That photo above shows Bruce Lee giving respects just a year before he would be dead...
Bruce Lee não tinha a qualificação para transmitir o Ving Tsun em nome de seu Si Fu. Não era simplesmente uma questão de autorização.
Além disso é muito difícil de um Si Fu virar as costas para um discípulo, portanto cabe a nós refletirmos na próxima vez que lermos que Ip Man expulsou Bruce Lee da Família Kung Fu...
Bruce did not have qualification to teach Ving tsun under his Si Fu´s name. But the fact that he teached even this way, is not a reason for Ip Man turn his back for Bruce. So we have to think more when we read that Ip Man did like Bruce no more...

Muito antes da febre Ip Man que se instalou em 2007 e de um encontro que ocorrerá em Ip Man 2 entre Bruce e Ip Man nos cinemas. Ip Chun, o filho de Ip Man na vida real fez o papel de seu pai e contracenou com um ator que intepretava Bruce Lee voltando ao velho Mo Gun.
Before the Ip man fever on cinemas since 2007, Ip Chun played his father Ip man on the screen in a scene where he finds a Bruce Lee coming back to visit his old Mo Gun.
